Alcovy Future Farmers of America (FFA) is offering a day camp for Newton County School System elementary students for fall break, Oct. 19 through 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The camp is for students kindergarten through fifth grade. Students will learn about plants, wildlife animals, farm animals and more at the Alcovy FFA Academy at Alcovy High School.

If your child gets bored during week-long school breaks, the Alcovy High School FFA has an opportunity for you.

According to Alcovy High School FFA Advisor Cecily Bullock, outdoor play, games, hands-on activities, crafts and guest speakers will be on the Aggie Academy agenda.

“We will keep the students busy throughout the week with lots activities and all of them will connect to agriculture and our community,” Bullock said. “This is a great opportunity for our FFA students to not only teach others about a variety of agriculture topics but to also share their love for agriculture with younger students in our community. We hope this camp will serve as a way to connect our kids with the elementary school children in our area and start conversations about the importance of agriculture at home with their families.”

Bulloch said Alcovy FFA students will take part in a two-day leadership class that focuses on building public speaking skills and teamwork to help prepare them to serve as camp counselors to Aggie Academy campers.

“The young campers will be gaining skills and knowledge that will impact their education,” Bulloch said. “And our FFA members will also be gaining just as much if not more from this camp. It’s a win-win for all of the students who will participate in Aggie Academy.”

A $100 registration fee for the camp is due by Oct. 2, and includes a T-shirt, all activities and events, and a daily snack. Lunch is not provided. Due to space restrictions, only the first 150 students registered will be accepted.

A completed registration form and check payable to “Alcovy FFA” should be mailed or hand-delivered to Alcovy FFA, Attention: Ms. Cecily Bullock, 14567 Georgia 36, Covington, Georgia 30014. Parents will receive an email confirmation of registration along with the Aggie Academy Information Packet once payment has been received.
