Thousands attended the annual Taste of Newton at the Porter Memorial Gym Thursday night.

The event is the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce's annual fundraiser. Thursday night more than a thousand people attended, purchasing tickets worth $1 dollar each to spend at booths hosted by area restaurants and businesses.

Among the restaurants were Bradley's BBQ, Mystic Grill, Irish Bred Pub, Millazo's Restaurant, Jimmy John's Sandwiches, Johnny's Pizza, Bread and Butter and more. Among the businesses were Steel Co., Town Square Olive Oil, the Oaks Course, Newton Federal and United banks.

Food items such as shrimp and grits, chili, pita sandwiches, cookies, tacos and more were served, while music played and door prizes were given away.
