Newton County District 4 Commissioner J.C. Henderson presented a $100,000 check, on behalf of the Newton County Board of Commissioners, to the city of Oxford Tuesday.

The check, accepted by Oxford Mayor Jerry Roseberry on behalf of the city, will go to the Asbury Street Park.

The money comes from a 2006 Newton County SPLOST project, with the funding being set aside for recreation.

The $100,000 is a portion of the total cost needed for the park, with the balance coming from Oxford capital project funds.
