A 12-year-old boy was killed when a gun he was playing with accidentally went off Saturday evening.

According to Newton County Sheriff's Office Lt. Tyrone Oliver, the 12-year-old was unconscious when deputies arrived. The boy was rushed to Newton Medical Center where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The investigation revealed that the victim and a 13-year-old boy were at home when they found the gun inside the residence. The two were playing with the weapon when it accidentally discharged, hitting the 12-year-old.
