ATLANTA (AP) — A girl who police say accidentally shot herself with a gun at a midtown Atlanta high school is set to make her first court appearance Thursday morning.

Atlanta police spokesman Carlos Campos says the 17-year-old Grady High School student is charged with reckless conduct, possession of a pistol by a minor, disruption of a public school and carrying weapons within a school safety zone.

Authorities say the girl shot herself in the leg Wednesday morning, outside the school between buildings on campus.

Atlanta schools Superintendent Erroll Davis said the student told administrators she didn't pass through the school's metal detectors with the gun. Still, parents expressed concern it was on campus.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports (http://bit.ly/VNyynS) that students also voiced concerns about the process used to screen students as they enter school.
