ATLANTA (AP) — State officials are looking to identify more than 20,000 alumni of the Governor's Honors Program.

The program is a four-week, summer learning experience for the state's highest achieving students. The program is funded by the General Assembly and operates at no cost for those selected to participate.

Officials are organizing a gala fundraiser and silent auction at the governor's mansion in October to celebrate the program's 50th anniversary and hope to invite as many alumni as possible.

Some 3,000 students are nominated each year by their schools and are chosen after an intensive interview process. They spend six days a week in classes focused around a topic of their choosing, ranging from theater to mathematics.
