CEDARTOWN, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say they've apprehended a man accused of pulling two children out of his vehicle after he crashed it and then leaving the kids at the scene of the wreck.

State patrol spokesman Gordy Wright says one of the children, a 6-year-old boy, later died at a hospital. A 5-year-old girl was seriously injured in the one-car wreck along Tallapoosa Highway near Cedartown Sunday morning.

Wright says a witness told troopers the driver, 42-year-old Robert Nelson Wood of Tallapoosa, pulled two children from the car and ran away.

The state patrol said he was found about three-quarters of a mile from the crash site after a manhunt for him. It wasn't immediately known whether he has an attorney.

The girl was being treated at a hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn.
