Ga. man shot after mother's funeral, hospitalized

AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) — Police in Sumter County say a man is in stable condition after being shot in the chest during his mother's funeral.

Authorities told WTVM-TV shots were fired outside Concord Methodist Church just west of Americus on Wednesday. Officials say 53-year-old Jack Aycock was wounded and is in stable condition at Phoebe Sumter Hospital.

Authorities believe he was shot by an estranged relative, who has been taken in for police questioning.

Investigators say they questioned witnesses and have not determined the shooter's potential motive.
