ACWORTH, Ga. (AP) — Paulding County sheriff's officials say a man accused of beating a 12-year-old boy to death has been charged with child cruelty.

Cpl. Ashley Henson says police were sent to a house in Acworth Friday for a call about a reported drowning. Henson says a 12-year-old boy was found unconscious inside the house and was pronounced dead at Paulding Wellstar Hospital.

Henson says the department's Crimes Against Children Division was called to investigate. Authorities say the boy suffered multiple bruises, bite marks, lacerations and other injuries that were consistent with child abuse.

Investigators arrested 32-year-old Shayaa Yusef Forbes, and it's unclear if he has an attorney.

Henson says a girl who also lived with Forbes has been taken into custody by the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services.
