ATLANTA (AP) — A flash flood watch has been extended through late Monday afternoon for much of north Georgia.

Continuing thunderstorms through Monday morning prompted fears of flooding from Atlanta to the north.

In addition to Atlanta and its northern suburbs, the flood watch covers the cities of Athens, Rome, Dalton, Blairsville, Gainesville and Toccoa. It is scheduled to be in effect through 4 p.m.

Forecasters say low-lying areas could quickly become clogged with debris, which could lead to extensive street flooding.

Widespread thunderstorms over Alabama early Monday morning were expected to move into north Georgia.
