ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — The first group of Caterpillar workers is moving in to office space at the company's new Georgia plant.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports (http://bit.ly/10yonUB) that the 850,000-square-foot facility is now home to 50 workers. They moved in to the new space less than a year after the official groundbreaking for the plant in Bogart, just west of Athens.
Workers will build tractors and excavators at the plant.
Officials have said they plan to ramp up to full production over a five-year period, company officials have said. The manufacturing facility is expected to directly employ 1,400 workers once it's fully operational.
