Marshall's Music Minute: Whiskey Bent at Amici; Big weekend at 5 O'Clock

The Sunday show today, April 9, at Porterdale Bar & Grill, will be the supremely talented front lady of Famous by February, Bethany Grace Hicks. Her angelic voice mixed with superb song selection always makes for a great show. Music starts at 3 p.m.

Speaking of Porterdale Bar & Grill, the rest of their lineup for the week is very exciting. Hot Rod Walt will be doing his once-a-month Thursday acoustic show (so no open mic this week) on the 13th. Friday night will see the public debut of The Duke Brothers Band, and Saturday the 15th it will be Rock Vault. Music starts at 9 p.m. on the weekend.

The Listening Room at Irish Bred Pub has another big week of music as well. Thursday night will see another edition of Jazz & Martinis with The Anthony Mancini Trio.

On Friday the 14th, Nathan Morgan, a McDonough-based artist, and his top-notch band will be heading up the stairs for what promises to be a big night. Morgan & Co. "focus on playing good rock n roll music with a touch of country and the blues...[and] approach every song we cover with the utmost respect." Good enough. These guys list Hank Williams, Skynyrd, Mountain and Cream as their biggest influences. Word on the street is that these guys can really rock it! Music starts at 8 p.m. Saturday night will see Jenn Thompson with special guest, Craig Lee.

Big Weekend at 5 O'Clock

Starting things off on Friday night will be the near legendary Borrowed Brother featuring Stratton Wilson. I first heard about this kid a while back. It's something else. This teenage guitar phenom and wonderkid from the ATL plays like a combination of Slash and Hendrix mixed in with some Zeppelin, Van Halen, and Motley Crue. He can really lay it down, man! And with a killer band including David Northip on vocals, Amy Epperly on bass, and Ty Steele on the drums, this hard hitting RAWK will blow you away. Music starts at 9 p.m.

The 5 O'Clock crew simply reloads for the next evening. Robin Dixon and her band, The Midnight Moon, come a callin' all the way from Augusta, GA. And folks, I'm here to tell you, this young lady is something else. Robin Dixon is the name and rockin' out is the game! This girl is on fire and plays a super fun mix of Country and Southern & Classic Rock. This lady doesn't mess around. She drives a big truck an

Featured Performance: Whiskey Bent live at Amici Covington, Friday, April 14, Music starts at 7:30 p.m.

As many of you know, I'm a really big fan of Fluff and Marc, otherwise known as Whiskey Bent. To me they're right up there with Chris, Jon & Scott in terms of how much fun their shows are. Great song selections that hop from genre to genre coupled with their impressive skills always makes for a memorable evening. And this show is pretty special in that it will likely be their last one for a while as Marc will be taking an extended music paternity leave as he and his lovely wife are preparing for the birth of their first child.

The Return of Dinner Theater to The Speakeasy - auditions this weekend.

The Porterdale Players, produced by CG Bolkcom, and featuring Ellis "Da" Millsaps as director, will be holding open auditions at the Speakeasy this Saturday, April 15th, from 1 to 3 p.m. They're looking for six to eight actors, male and female, to perform in two one-act plays that will be performed in mid to late May. One of the plays, "For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls," is a parody of "The Glass Menagerie," and looks like a lot of fun. The other one is a murder mystery. The performance next month will also include live featured music, a top-shelf supper, and some of Da's brilliant, offbeat humor. Performers will eat free the night of the performance and receive a nominal stipend.Text 770-634-9725 for more info.

Exciting stuff, friends! Just another week in Newton County. We'll see you next time.
