In the 18th Annual Justice Robert Benham Awards for Community Service Feb. 28, local Alcovy Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge Horace J. Johnson and Director of the Paralegal Studies Program at Georgia Piedmont Technical College J. Virgil Costley Jr. were recognized alongside other attorneys and judges. Johnson was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest recognition given by the State Bar of Georgia and Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism. Costley was awarded the Justice Robert Benham Award for Community Service, which is given to people who have demonstrated an extraordinarily long and distinguished commitment to volunteer participation in the community and throughout his or her legal career.

Since 1998, these awards have been presented to the honorable lawyers and judges in Georgia who have made significant contributions to their communities and demonstrate the positive contributions of members of the Bar beyond their legal or official work.
