Mr. and Mrs. William Winslow Byington Jr., of Rome announce the engagement of Emily Allgood Griffin, daughter of Mrs. Janet Byington and the late George Griffin Jr., to Bryan Thomas Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Denny Dobbs of Covington and Judges Edward H. Johnson and Carolyn Weeks of Social Circle.

 Miss Griffin is a 2002 graduate of Darlington School. She debuted at the Rome Symphony Orchestra Debutante Ball in 2003. She graduated cum laude from the University of Georgia in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science where she was also a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Sigma Alpha and Delta Mu Sigma honor societies. She graduated in 2009 from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University with a Juris Doctorate degree. She is also a member of Phi Alpha Delta honor society and currently works at the Floyd County District Attorney’s Office.

 The bride-elect is the step-sister of Will Byington, III, of Rome and Dr. Kelly Byington of St. Petersburg, Fla. She is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Archibald Alexander Farrar Sr, and the late Mr. and Mrs. George Goetchius Griffin Sr.

 Johnson earned his Associate Degree from the Oxford College of Emory University in 2001 and is a 2003 graduate from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. He also graduated from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University in 2009 with a Juris Doctorate degree and currently practices with Cox-Byington law firm in Rome.

 The groom-elect is the brother of Luke Dobbs of Covington, Lane Dobbs of Covington, Michael Johnson-Weeks of Social Circle, and the late Michael Adams Dobbs. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Johnson of Palmetto and the late Mr. and Mrs. James L. Burns.

 The wedding is planned for October 23 at Darlington Chapel with a reception to follow at Shepherd’s Haven. Invitations will be sent.
