Dr. and Mrs. W. Michael Dennis of Longwood, Fla., announce the engagement of their daughter Jennifer Erin "Jenny" Dennis to John William "Jack" Carey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Carey of Champaign, Ill. Jenny is the granddaughter of Cora Hays Dennis and the late Julian H. "Bow" Dennis of Mansfield and the great-granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Hays of Mansfield.

 The bride-elect is a graduate of Lake Mary (Fla.) High School. She received her BA in International Studies at Emory University in 2005 and her MST from Pace University in New York in 2007. She is employed by Kipp Central City Academy, New Orleans, as a reading specialist and assistant principal. The future groom graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2004 with a degree in environmental policy. He is employed as the Director of Recruitment and Selection for the Kipp Foundation. The couple met on the New York City subway while participating in the Teach for America program in the South Bronx. A Nov. 7 wedding is planned in New Orleans where the couple will reside.
