COVINGTON, Ga. - Local churches are planning special services for Holy Week and Easter Sunday.

The following schedule has been provided to The Covington News:

Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, 803 Whatcoat St., Oxford (The Rev. Josh Roberts, pastor)

  • Maundy Thursday, 6 p.m. at Allen Memorial
  • Good Friday, 12:15 p.m. at Oxford Chapel
  • Eastern sunrise service, 7 a.m.
  • Easter worship service, 11 a.m.

Covington First United Methodist Church, 1113 Conyers St. SW (The Rev. Dr. Doug Gilreath, senior pastor)

  • Maundy Thursday service, 7 p.m. (sanctuary)
  • Good Friday service, 7 p.m. (sanctuary)
  • Easter sunrise service, 7 a.m. (Wesley Chapel lawn)
  • Easter traditional service, 8:30 and 11 a.m. (sanctuary)
  • Easter contemporary worship, 11 a.m. (Wesley Chapel)

Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal, 4140 Clark St. SW, Covington (The Rev. Edwin Beckham, rector)

  • Maundy Thursday eucharist, with optional foot washing, 6:30 p.m.
  • Good Friday worship, with Veneration of the Cross and Holy Communion, 6:30 p.m.
  • Holy Saturday worship, 9 a.m.
  • The Great Vigil of Easter, a sunrise eucharist, 6:30 a.m.
  • Festal holy eucharist, 10 a.m.

First Baptist Church of Covington, 1139 Usher St. NW (The Rev. Dr. Cody McNutt, senior pastor)

  • Easter worship service on the square, 10 a.m.
First Presbyterian Church of Covington, 1169 Clark St. SW (The Rev. Dr. Billy Wade, pastor)

  • Maundy Thursday service, 6 p.m.
  • Easter service, 11 a.m.

Grace United Methodist Church, 3145 Washington St. SW, Covington (The Rev. George Lanier, pastor)

  • Maundy Thursday service, 7 p.m.
  • Good Friday service, 7 p.m.
  • Easter resurrection service, 11 a.m.

A series of Holy Week lunchtime services will continue Wednesday through Friday at First United Methodist Church. Guest speakers include the Rev. Dr. Cody McNutt of First Baptist Church on Wednesday, the Rev. Joshua Roberts of Allen Memorial Chapel United Methodist Church on Thursday and the Rev. Dr. Billy Wade of First Presbyterian Church on Friday. Services begin at noon each day.
