COVINGTON, Ga. - Airica Dimsdale found that she had a knack for making jewelry after her mother ordered her beads off Ebay in college and she immediately started to receive compliments from friends. Since then, Dimsdale has created the brand “Peachy Keen” and now sells her jewelry nation-wide.
With most of its orders taking place online, Peachy Keen is excited to open its first brick and mortar location in downtown Covington. Located at 1120 Monticello St., up the stairs in between Bread and Butter and the Hollywood of the South museum in Suite 20, Peachy Keen will continue to offer free shipping online or an in-store experience.
Dimsdale, along with her mother Tracie Brown Hodges, will celebrate the new location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. and a grand opening Saturday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
While Peachy Keen focuses on handmade jewelry, which can be found in 63 boutiques all the way to Alaska, the new Covington headquarters will allow for the store to start selling clothing as well.
“I knew I wanted to expand and so my mom was like ‘Well, I’ll do the clothes portion, you do the jewelry portion’ and then it got where it was kind of overwhelming where it was everywhere in our house and we were shipping everything from there so we decided to get an office,” Dimsdale said. “We’re just going to run our online business from there but it’s also where locals can stop by and pick up items.”
Dimsdale said she will continue to offer free shipping and now in-store pickup.
“We want our store to be a convenience to people. We don’t want to charge them shipping just because they’re not local, but we give the convenience to locals to be able to walk up there, pick out what they want and they can leave with it,” she said. “It’s basically a headquarters but people can stop by kind of thing.”
Dimsdale said her target audience is anyone who wants to dress trendy at affordable prices.
She said she is eager to find ways to give back to the community.
“We want to be able to give back to Covington itself, but we don’t want to just limit ourselves to it, that’s why we’re so big on our online business,” she said.
