Porterdale kicks off Independence Day week with a duck derby, fireworks

PORTERDALE, Ga. – The City of Porterdale kicked off Independence Day week Saturday with a rubber duck race down the Yellow River to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club planned for the west side of Newton County and a spectacular fireworks show after dark.

Porterdale police reported no incidents as the estimated crowd of 3,000 also enjoyed live music, food and bounce houses for the kids at the city’s annual celebration at Yellow River Park.
