Meet Susann Whittle, a clinical care coordinator at Newton Medical Center. Her interests in the medical field and helping others started when she volunteered as a candy striper at the hospital at the age of 15.
“I realized that summer as a volunteer that this was something that I really wanted to continue,” Whittle told me.
As I watched her in action with patients at the birth-care center, I could see that this is what she was destined to do.
Valerie Cook, who gave birth to her fourth child early Wednesday, told me she waited for Whittle to arrive at the hospital to have Gralynn.
“She’s been involved with three of my children’s births, and I wasn’t going to have my fourth without her here,” Cook said.
Whittle told me she loves her job and the people she gets to meet and would like to see more young people get involved
in volunteering.
