COVINGTON, Ga. – One hundred or so walkers from all over Newton County showed up at Turner Lake Park Thursday night to participate in the third of four “Every Body Walk Newton” community walks.
The series of walks, hosted by Newton Trails, are billed as an opportunity to “build community as we have fun walking and talking together.”
Marcello Banes, chairman of the Newton County Board of Commissioners, addressed the walkers before they started, telling them how important trails and walking are to connecting all parts of Newton County and building a stronger community.
“Trails are big for our community,” Banes said. “We need a way to have connectivity throughout our county.”
The final walk in the series is scheduled for May 3. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Elm Street Trailhead.
