COVINGTON, Ga. - Piedmont Newton Hospital’s Safe Seats 4 Kids program will be offering free car seat inspections and education by certified child passenger safety technicians to parents and caregivers on Wednesday, Sept. 20 and Thursday, Sept. 21 from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Car seats, booster seats and seat belts are oftentimes set up and used incorrectly. Using the correct car seat for a child’s age and size, as well as correctly installing the seat could reduce the number of children who die in car crashes each year, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The upcoming event, part of National Child Passenger Safety Week, will instruct parents and caregivers on how to choose, install and use the right car seat for their child.

“No parent ever wants to get it wrong when it comes to a child’s safety,” Missy Braden, coordinator of the First Steps program at Piedmont Newton, said. “Parents: don’t think that your child is safe, but instead, know that your child is safe and secure in their car seat, with the help and guidance of a certified technician.”

Child Passenger Safety Week, which is Sept. 17 to 23, is dedicated to teaching parents and caregivers about the importance of correctly choosing, installing and using car seats, booster seats and seat belts.  

Piedmont Newton’s Safe Seats 4 Kids’ National Child Passenger Safety Week event is free to attend and will be held at Covington First United Methodist Church at 1113 Conyers St. from 8:30 to 10 a.m. All parents and caregivers in the community are invited to attend.
