It’s another week and another round of great music here in Newton County. But this week there’s a little something extra.
First Fridays at Southern Heartland Gallery kicks off with Spanish Flamenco music Friday, Oct. 7 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at 1132 Monticello Street, SW, Covington.
For those who like art, light hors d’oeuvres, wine and Flamenco guitar music, this event on the southwest corner of the Covington Square, occurring every first Friday in the fall, is just the spot.
This amazing guild and gallery, featuring some of the greatest artists in the area, is so cool and special just by itself. But any time you add music, food and beverages to the work of skillful and creative artisans that’s something special.
Kicking off the inaugural First Friday will be Doble T, well-known and renowned Flamenco guitarist extraordinaire who has made quite the name for himself in and around the Metro Atlanta area. He also specializes in Flamenco dancing. In addition to the music and refreshments, there will be art demonstrations and several of the Guild Artisans will be in attendance as well. And per usual, there will be an impressive collection of art on display and for sale. You won't want to miss this one.
"Jazz and Martinis" at The Listening Room at Irish Bred Pub, 1115 Church Street, Covington, featuring the Anthony Mancini Band on Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Mancini and company have been performing this weekly residence at The Listening Room for a few weeks and have, by all accounts, been wowing crowds of jazz aficionados and enthusiasts during that time. Mancini holds a degree in Jazz Guitar from Kennesaw State and has the licks and songbook to be described as "Real Deal Jazz." His bandmates are all legit, and they kick out righteous jazz numbers in an intimate and lounge style that will make you nod your head to those sweet jazz sounds while holding your martini glass.
Another strong 1,2,3 punch at Mystic Grill

Then to top it off, JJ and Micha return to the Grill on Saturday, Oct. 8. Live music all three nights starts at 7 p.m.
