James and Denise Osburn of Covington announce the engagement of their daughter Kristen Darrien Osburn to Matthew Bernard Cooper, son of Coley and Sharon Cooper of Covington.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Edward and Betty Jenkins, the late JoAnne Jenkins and Lewis and Nita Osburn, all of Covington. She holds a bachelor's degree in education and teaches third grade at the Newton County Theme School.

The future groom is the grandson of Jim and Martha Polk of Carrolton and the late Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Cooper of Conyers. He served eight years in the U.S. Army and is employed as an officer with the city of Covington Police Department.

The wedding is planned for Sept. 15 at the First Baptist Church of Covington.
