Country music abounds in Covington this week

The music scene around Covington has been fun and eclectic this summer, and as the heat really pours on throughout the middle of July, it seems time to settle in and listen to a little Country Music. There are plenty of chances to hear the sounds of Country throughout the area this week.

Featured performers

Matt Rogers performing at The Mystic Grill, 1116 Clark Street, NW, Covington, Thursday, July 14 at 7 p.m.

A Nashville resident by way of Macon, who is originally from Eatonton, Rogers really seems to be blowing up. He's been playing throughout the Southeast and recently finished as a CMT Songwriter Achievement Award finalist. He swings into Covington on a Georgia tour that has him hitting spots like St. Simons, Buford, Atlanta, Helen, Macon and a few others, all in the month of July. He seems to stay busy, for sure.

Rogers recently released a new EP and several of his songs can be found at his Facebook page, Facebook.com/mattrogerscountry. He has some pretty good tunes with a sound a bit more on the pop-country side” It's all well done with good production work, strong lyrics, nice melodies and interesting chord progression. His sound, to me, could be described as a blending of Marc Broussard and Zac Brown. I enjoyed it. I'd pick up one of his albums. He's got a pretty good voice, too, and contributions by female vocalist Megan Fowler are just exceptional. Look out for the song, "Square One," it's a really good one.

It's always a fun night out on the rooftop at The Mystic, and they'll move it inside if the weather doesn't cooperate.

Drew Parker with Sweet Harmony performing at The Listening Room at Irish Bred Pub, 1115 Church Street, Covington, Friday, July 15 at 8 p.m.

We've covered Parker in the space a couple of times, and as you may remember, I'm a pretty big fan. Parker is legit. He's real-deal country. He's got the voice, the look and the songwriting chops. It's truly a pleasure for me and the fellow members of Sweet Harmony to open for him at this much-anticipated show at The Listening Room. I'm really looking forward to it.
Sweet Harmony should be a good opener for Parker, as their sound can be described as country, folk and Americana, with a lot of vocal harmonies and guitar interplay.

For those of you who have seen Parker live in the past, and I know there's a good bit of you who have, you'll no doubt enjoy the show that he's got lined up for this weekend. And you can definitely expect to hear his killer single, "Slow Down, Small Town," that he released back in April. It should be a great night.

And as I wrote about last week in a featured article, The Listening Room really is a superb musical venue, featuring a great vibe, great bar and great people. Check out their Facebook page at Facebook.com/thelisteningroomibp for ticket information, or you can buy at the door.
Josh Beck performing at Sycamore Street Pizzeria, 198 West Sycamore Street, Social Circle, Saturday, July 16 at 8 p.m.

Beck is another of the several young and up-and-coming Country singers we have in our area. He's impressed a lot of folks and I know the people at Sycamore are excited about this show. Look for a good mix of newer and classic country at one of the area's most happening music venues.
