A great weekend for great shows

We witnessed another great week of music, and by all accounts the benefit show for Dillon Bragg went very well. That's awesome. The great music will continue this week, as this weekend's shows reads like a "Who's Who" of well-known Covington musical acts. So, here we go:

The Apostles of Bluegrass perform at Sycamore St. Pizzeria, 198 W Sycamore, Social Circle on. Friday, Aug. 19 at 8 p.m.
Johnny Roquemore and the gang are taking their sound to Social Circle. Apparently the ownership of the Sycamore enjoyed Roquemore so much at the Bragg benefit, they wanted to get him at their establishment as quick as possible. The Apostles are a great mix of country, ole-timey and bluegrass with great instrumentation and vocal harmonies.

JJ and Micah perform at Amici, 1116 College Ave SE, Covington on Friday, Aug. 19 at 8 p.m.

These two smooth fellas are bringing their eclectic mix of blues, jazz, and R&B back to Amici in what promises to be a great night. Super strong vocal work with some killer musical chops, these guys can bring it with the best of them. I understand they've got a new cover that's going to blow some minds. Definitely check it out.

Chris, Jon and Scott perform at Mystic Grill, 1116 Clark Street, SW, Covington on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.

This super trio returns to the rooftop. This crew is legit with strong guitar and bass work, and Chris and Jon can really belt it out vocally. And they really mix it up, material wise. They play several genres, so there really is something for everyone. It's always a fun night on the rooftop.

Whiskey Bent performs at Sycamore Street on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 8 p.m.

Fluff Whatley and Marc Airington, the talented duo that is Whiskey Bent, will be once again at the Sycamore. These guys put on a heck of a show with a great mix of rock and country, Whatley’s soulful voice and Airington’s guitar work is always fun to watch.

Five Speed performs at The Social House, 2101 Main Street, Porterdale on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 9 p.m.

This crew seems to really be building a following all throughout Georgia. They're regulars of the middle and south Georgia music circuit, hitting spots like Milledgeville, Tifton and Valdosta, and they've also been playing around Atlanta a good bit as well. Described as a mix of Classic Country and Southern Rock, this crew, as I'm told, always puts on a great show. I know the Social House folks are excited about this evening which is also part of a Birthday bash.

As always, there's a lot of other stuff going on as well. Check out Covnews.com for more info. Thanks for reading. See you next week.
