Uvah Hood Ellington

Uvah Hood Ellington, 90, of Conyers died Nov. 20 at Heartland Hospice. The daughter of the late Charlie Claud and Donie Mitcham Hood, she was a native of Newton County but had made her home in Conyers since 1980 where she was a member of Conyers Presbyterian Church. She worked in the millinery department with Macy's Department Store in Atlanta and Chicago and was a bookkeeper at Western Auto Associate Store in Newnan and Thomasville, where she worked with her late husband Harvey Anderson Ellington, to whom she was married for 68 years. Mrs. Ellington loved to cook, especially baking, and enjoyed working in the yard. She is preceded in death by sisters Otera Cason and Sarah Brooks and brothers C.C. Hood Jr. and Robert H. Hood.

Surviving are daughters and son-in-law Lynn Ellington and Cheryl E. and Tom Jones, all of Conyers; grandson Justin T. Jones of Jupiter, Fla.; sisters Geraldine Ellington of Oxford, Annie Lois Bliss of Wheeling, W.Va.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, in the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, with Dr. Al Myers officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 23.
