Ken and Brenda Thompson of Decatur, Ala., announce the engagement of their daughter Jennifer Elizabeth of Covington to John Gabriel Long of Covington, son of Larry and Sue Long of Columbus, Miss.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Jerry and Betty Thompson and the late Ben and Concetta Serio. She is a graduate of Austin High School in Decatur and a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Alabama with a bachelor of arts in journalism. She is currently employed as education reporter at The Covington News.

The future groom is the grandson of the late J.D. Long and Victor Simmons and Marguerite Long and Jean Simmons. He is a graduate of New Hope High School in Columbus. He received an associate's degree from Northeast Mississippi Community College and attended the University of Alabama. He is a registered real estate appraiser and is currently employed by R.L.'s off the Square.

The wedding will be held June 14 at the First Presbyterian Church of Covington.
