Pinkie Gaither Shy

Mrs. Pinkie Gaither Shy died Sept. 3. the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Odessa) Gaither, she was born in the Leguinn Community of Covington in 1914. In 1946 she married Mr. Arthur Shy and they reared five children. She joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and served on the Mother and Usher boards while healthy. Mother Pinkie, as she was affectionately known, was an entrepreneur and loved all things beautiful - flowers, hats and clothes. She always dressed to the nines and was a diplomat bridging the gap between races and all walks of live. She was preceded in death by husband and children Ms. Irene Shy, Mr. Charles Lynch, two died prematurely, and grandson Mr. Nigel Scott.

Surviving are children Mrs. Peggy Cofield, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony (Donna) Shy, Mr. Gregory Shy; grandchildren Shameeka Shy Ayers, (Eric), Lachandria Shy, Chanci Shy, LaKenya White, Holley Loyd (Larry), Loretta Lynch, Cedric Lynch (Michelle); nine great-grandchildren; sisters Mrs. Edna Johnson, Mrs. Ruenelle Digby; daughter-in-law Mrs. Shirley Lynch; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 7 at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Carlton Mathis officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
