Whether you're looking for a new helmet to go with your Harley or you're looking to personalize your bike with some pinstripes, Motorcycles Painting & Accessories Inc. has something for every motorcycle enthusiast.
MPA is a motorcycle shop offering body work, unique custom paint jobs, custom sheet metal modifications and fabrications. Located since 2005 on Emory Street in downtown Covington, MPA has been in business in Newton County since 1998.
"We do everything besides taking the motor apart," said MPA co-owner Alise Nusser.
Owner Shane Gower says he has been working on motorcycles all his life.
"It started off as a hobby and it turned into a business," said Gower, who placed 14th out of 64 builders in the American Motorcycle Dealer World Bike Build-off in 2004.
Gower, who is a licensed manufacturer of motorcycles, says he works on all makes and models of motorcycles.
MPA builds bikes to customer specifications and is a dealer of Custom Chrome, Tucker Rocky, Bikers Choice, V-Twin, Midwest, Sullivans, RC Components, Kustomwerks, MC Advantages, Mustang, Phillips Motorsports, Thrill Ride/Jack Daniels and XO Prodox.
Gower said that made-to-order bikes typically take from one month to six months to complete depending on the wishes of the customer. The cost of custom-made bikes at MPA ranges from $16,000 to $40,000.
Gower first got into the motorcycling business by doing custom paint jobs, and because the paint jobs required dismantling the bike first, Gower says he got so used to taking bikes apart and putting them back together that he figured he should just start building them as well.
"To me it gives it a kind of attitude," Gower said of why motorcycle enthusiasts have their bikes painted. "A lot of bikes tell you about the person that rides it."
At MPA custom paint jobs begin at $1,200. MPA also carries accessories for any make or model of motorcycle.
For the month of November, MPA is having a 15 percent off special on all winter bike apparel.
