Mr. Orville Otis Ray Jr., 81, of Oxford, died Aug. 25. The son of the late Orville Otis Ray Sr. and Lola Custis Pounds Ray, he was born in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1926. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Conyers. Mr. Ray served in the South Pacific in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked as a route salesman for Atlanta Dairies for over 30 years. He loved gardening and listening to Neal Boortz on the radio. Mr. Ray was a devout Florida Gator fan.
Surviving are wife of 60 years Thelma E. Ray of Oxford; sons and daughter-in-law Gregory E. Ray Sr. of Covington, Glenn Blair Ray of Tampa, Fla., Carl A. and Sara Emily Ray of Smyrna; daughter and son-in-law Robin A. and David Collins Sr. of Oxford; sister Thelma R. Ray of Covington; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Aug. 28 in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Lyndon Collings officiating. Interment will follow at Sardis Church Cemetery.
