Drive-in movie theaters may be a thing of the past, but you can still experience the magic of watching the stars under the stars with two outdoor film screenings at the Church at Covington next weekend.
"The Chronicles of Narina: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" kicks off The Church at Covington's 2007 Outdoor Summer Family Movie Series at 7 p.m. June 22. Free and open to the public, families can cruise in with their cars or bring lawn chairs and blankets. Concessions will be available to purchase.
"We're just all about trying to do things to get the community out and give some options to Covington," Senior Pastor David Payne said. "There's so much that goes on here you can't mention God at. We can bring fun groups for the community and you can mention God."
The evening will start with what's been described as "Covington's largest freeze tag game," in keeping with the movie's storyline, where the witch turns her victims to stone. For the rest of the series, the church will be showing "Facing the Giants," with football-themed games in July, and "Happy Feet" in August, when they hope to bring fake snow.
On June 23, Atlanta Christian radio station 104.7 The Fish will host a screening of "Flushed Away," also free and open to the public.

The grounds open at 7 p.m. Inflatable playgrounds and vendors selling food and beverages will keep families busy and fed until the film at sundown, and the Fish Fun Crew will be on site with prizes and giveaways.
The Church's open lawn area, which is used for events such as the county's Fourth of July celebration, is about the size of three or four football fields and can easily fit more than 3,000 people, according to Payne.
