Under new ownership for the last year, South of the Square Storage (formerly known as Southside Storage) has greatly expanded its available storage space with several new models.
New owner Steve Kennon says he has expanded available storage space from the original 9,000 square feet at the time he purchased Southside Storage from Joe Mobley to 36,000 square feet today.
Located a short distance south of the Covington square on Ga. Highway 36, South of the Square Storage has 356 storage units with a wide variety of sizes. In addition Kennon said he also custom-builds units.
Customers can access their units 24-hours a day in a well-lit environment Kennon said. All units come with a top-of-the-line Chateau Industry Services disc padlock which is equipped with anti-pick pins.
"That's the toughest lock I could find," Kennon said.
Four shop-style units are available which come with utilities including lights and water drainage. These units are ideal for electricians, home remodelers, mechanics, car detailers and do-it-yourselfers who don't have enough available space at their residence for their special projects said Kennon. The units are $225 a month and are 125 square feet in size.
"This is very cheap for an office," said Kennon who also owns two other storage businesses in Alabama.
Exterior units with space large enough to park cars, campers, boats, trucks and trailers are also available at South of the Square. These exterior spaces are ideal for residents living in sub-divisions with restrictive covenants which don't allow the on-street parking of large vehicles said Kennon. Rent for an exterior parking space ranges from $35 to $75 a month.
There are 53 climate-controlled units at South of the Square. These units range in size from 25 square feet ($48 a month) to 150 square feet ($125 a month).
Regular units range in size from 45 square feet ($40 a month) to 300 square feet ($125 a month.)
Kennon said he offers 10 percent discounts for large commercial customers who can commit to a lengthy lease. In addition Kennon said he will offer a move-in special of half off the first month's rent for new customers who mention this article to him.
In a months time there will also be moving truck rental services available for customers.
There is still space for additional units at South of the Square said Kennon. The type of units he builds in the future will depend on his customers.
"It just depends on the demand," Kennon said. "I'll let the market tell me that."
