Myra Nell Wheelis Atkinson

Myra Nell Myra Nell Wheelis Atkinson, 77, of Porterdale, died Nov. 30. The daughter of the late William Floyd and Gaudia Zelma Pierce Kelly, she was born in Hamilton County, Tenn., and had been a resident of Porterdale for over 50 years. Ms. Atkinson retired from C & D Battery in Conyers after 20 years of service. She enjoyed reading and putting picture puzzles together. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Ms. Atkinson was preceded in death by sisters Faye Smith and Doris R. Brannon.

Surviving are ex-husband Kenneth Atkinson of McDonough; daughter and son-in-law Shelia A. Hall Shaw and Larry M. Shaw of Madison; son and daughter-in-law Kenneth R. and Sandra Wheelis of Covington, grandchildren DuWayne Wheelis, Charles A. (Tony) Hall, Terri Lynn Stanifer, Renee Moon, Chrissie Watkins; nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Louise Boss of Covington, Willie C. Fulcher of Loganville; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Floyd Street chapel of Caldwell & Cowan with Pastor Clara Lett officiating. Interment followed at Lawnwood Memorial Park.
