Mrs. Mazie Mae Ellis Head, 82, of Porterdale, died Sept. 2 at Abbey Hospice. The daughter of the late Sam Ellis and Maggie Stapp Ellis, she was born in 1924 in Rutledge. Mrs. Head was a member of Porterdale Baptist Church and worked at the Porterdale Mill for many years. She was preceded in death by daughter Barbara Penn Roberts, who died in 2005.

Surviving are husband of 65 years James W. Head Sr.; daughter and son-in-law Diane and Owen Madsen of Covington; son Mickey Head of Porterdale; son and daughter-in-law James W. Jr. and Laura Head of Rutledge; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 5, in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Dickey Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Gardens.
