Last call for Newton recreation youth signups

The last day to register for the Newton County Recreation Commission youth football and/or cheerleading programs is between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Newton complex.

Athletes may register online for either program. (Online registration also ends Saturday.)

Boys participating in football must be at least seven years old and no older than 12 years old by September 1. The first 375 girls participating in cheerleading must be at least five years old and no older than 12 years old by September 1.

The cost for football is $115 for the first child and $105 for each additional sibling. The cost for cheerleading is $65 for the first child and $55 for each additional sibling.

A cheerleading clinic will be held August 18 at the Newton High School gymnasium. The cost is $7 per cheerleader.

Online registration for fall baseball and softball will begin July 30. Walk-in registration is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on August 4 and August 11 only at the Newton Recreation Department. (The final day to register is August 11.)

Boys must be at least five years old and no older than 14 as of April 30, 2008. Girls must be at least five years old and no older than 14 as of January 1, 2008.

In addition, registration for the fall adult softball league ends August 10.

A deposit per team will be due at the time of registration, and the balance of the registration fee will be due September 4. The fee is based on the number of teams registering.

There is a coaches meeting scheduled at 7 p.m. on August 21 at the Stone Road Complex.
