John Wesley Prince Sr. (Salty)

Mr. John Wesley Prince Sr. (Salty), 71, of Lake Talmadge, Hampton, went home to be with the Lord Nov. 19. The son of the late Robert William Prince Sr. and Mary Katherine Finley Prince, he was born in Covington. Mr. Prince was one of the most outstanding football players at Newton County High School in the 1950s and also played football for the University of Georgia.

He was a retired teacher for Fulton County School System and was a member of the Hampton First United Methodist Church. He was affectionately known as "John John" to his adoring grandchildren. Mr. Prince was an active person, enjoying cycling, whitewater sports, all other sports and attending football games, especially UGA football games.

Surviving are wife Suzanne Attaway Prince of Hampton; son Dr. John Wesley Prince Jr. of Lexington, Ky.; daughter and son-in-law Paree Prince Shedd and Dale Shedd of Athens; grandchildren Brittany Suzanne Prince of Lexington, Parissa Suzanne Shedd and Peyton Dale Shedd, both of Athens; brother and sister-in-law Robert William Prince Jr. (Sonny) and Mary Pace Prince of Monticello; sister Marjorie Ann Joyner of Lithonia; cousins Jackie Jay Finley of Smyrna, Dorsey Gary Hill and his wife Charlotte of Atlanta; numerous other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 23, at 3 p.m. at Hampton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Burgess officiating. Friends may visit the family one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Prince Avenue Christian School, 2201 Ruth Jackson Road, Bogart, 30622 in memory of John Wesley Prince Sr.
