James (Jimmy) L. Jones Sr., of Oxford, died March 16. Son of the late James Thomas and Nina Mae Moate Jones, he was a self-employed commercial and residential electrician and was a licensed minister and ordained deacon at Walnut Grove Baptist Church, where he enjoyed cooking for the annual barbecue and preparing the church communion any time it was needed. Mr. Jones was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed by many.
Surviving are wife Shirley Jones of Oxford; daughters and sons-in-law Stephanie and Sammy Saunders of Lynchburg, Va., Stacy and Rodney Moon, Jamie and Shane Clay, all of Loganville; sons and daughter-in-law James Larry Jones Jr. of Oxford, Josh and Kristy Jones of Grenada, Miss.; grandchildren Marilyn Vines, Michael Vines, Corey Moon, Kate Moon, Wesley Moon, James Clay, Anissa Clay, Brenden Jones, Tayler Rayn Jones, Joshua Noah Jones; sisters and brothers-in-law Mary and Alvin Lister of Byron, Katie Saunders of Chandler, N.J., Debbie and Burt Lanier of Lilburn; brothers and sister-in-law Bobby and Joy Jones of Macon, John Jones of Seneca, S.C.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Cannon officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jimmy L. Jones Fund, c/o Peoples Bank, 6124 U.S. Highway 278, Covington, 30014 or 1793 Ga. Highway 138 SE, Conyers, 30013.
