Deacon James Henry Johnson died Aug. 18. The son of the late Mr. Ezekiel Johnson and Mrs. Alberta Grimes Johnson, he was born in 1921 in Walton County. Deacon Johnson joined Little Bethel Baptist Church at an early age, and later he joined Sims Chapel Baptist Church where he served faithfully. He was chairman of the Deacon Board and a member of Enterprise Lodge No. 551. He was a loving and devoted foster parent for many years. His life centered around his family and friends. For many years, he was the overseer for Ashland Farms, owned by Lawson and Clay Calhoun. Deacon Johnson was preceded in death by wife Ms. Annie Dell Phillips Johnson.

Surviving are sons Mr. Alonzo Bradley, Monroe, Mr. James (Red) Farmer, Covington, Mr. Dwayne Johnson, Loganville, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell (Maria) Johnson, Las Vegas, Mr. Melvin Johnson, Loganville, Mr. Travis Johnson, Loganville; daughter Ms. Rolanda Johnson, Monroe; sisters Ms. Eula Johnson, Ms. Edna Johnson, Covington; sisters-in-law Mrs. Vera Bush, Buford, Mr. and Mrs. Jessie (Nell) Sims, Oxford, Mrs. Ella English, Covington, Mrs. Christine Hunt, Loganville; extended family Mr. and Mrs. Clay (Lucy) Calhoun, Mrs. Linda Hunt, Mrs. Lynell Hudson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; life-long friends Mr. John Lewis Riggins, Mr. Anderson Riggins, Mrs. Clydell Riggins and the Sims Chapel Baptist Church family.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 23 at Sims Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Rozier officiating. Interment followed at Sims Chapel Cemetery.
