Dennis Allen Whitcomb, Sr. of Covington died Friday, Aug. 10 at the age of 78. Born Apr. 6, 1929 in Lorain County, Ohio to the late Perry Edward and Phyllis Heath Whitcomb, Mr. Whitcomb served in World War II in Korea and also served in Vietnam. He retired from the United States Marines after 20 years of service. Mr. Whitcomb loved golfing, fishing, bowling and playing cards. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and a friend to many. Mr. Whitcomb is preceded in death by his wife, Emily Hammond Whitcomb.
Mr. Whitcomb is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Tait of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law Dennis Jr. and Brenda Whitcomb of Richmond, Va. and Ed and Kathy Whitcomb of Conyers; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Lee Ellsworth of Conyers; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mr. Whitcomb will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 13 at The Church at Covington with Rev. David Payne officiating. Flowers are accepted or a donation may be made to the charity of your choice.
