For mothers who are at their wits end when it comes to finding both attractive and affordable ballet apparel and cheer wear for their daughters, your prayers have been answered.

Pom Poms & Pirouettes, located on the Covington square next door to Fletcher's Jewelry, sells dance clothing, cheerleading garments, yoga and active wear has just opened its doors to local shoppers.

With three dance studios in town as well as multiple high school, middle school and recreation department cheerleading teams, co-owners and sisters Jodi Garner and Julie Langley think they've cornered the market on a thus far underserved clientele.

"There are so many dance studios in Covington and there is just no where to find this stuff," Garner said.

Pom Poms & Pirouettes carries the ever-popular Soffe shorts, in all colors of the rainbow and cheerleading T-shirts in all of the local school and recreation team colors. Embroidery and screening are also available for team shirts.

"If we don't have it and they need it, we will get it," Garner said.

Soffe shorts are $7.99, team-colored cheer shirts are $12 and dance leotards range in price from $15-$35.

"I think we're very reasonably priced," Garner said.

Sizes from children's 2s and 4 through adult are carried. Plus sizes can be ordered if they are not in stock. Nurse scrubs, yoga wear and workout clothes are also sold and come in women's sizes.

Jazz, ballet, pointe and tap shoes are all carried at the shop. Pointe shoes are $50. Customers are fitted for their pointe shoes at the shop and the shoes are then ordered online. Garner said the shoes typically arrive within a week. All other shoes are carried in stock. Ballet shoes are $13 and children's jazz and tap shoes are $22.

Sansha, Danskin, Balera and Dasha apparel and dance shoe lines are carried. Pom Poms & Pirouettes will have a float in the city of Oxford's Fourth of July Parade Friday. Store owners and staff members will be passing out coupons. The store will have its grand opening, which will feature free popcorn, snow cones and drinks, Saturday.

Customers that bring a copy of this article with them on Saturday will receive 20 percent off of one item in the store (excluding pointe shoes).
