Charles (Buddy) Bruce, 65, of Covington, died Feb. 4. The son of the late James and Allie Ruth Polk Bruce, he was a life-long resident of Newton County and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Bruce was employed by Tom Bruce Grading and enjoyed cutting wood and working on lawnmowers, trucks and cars. He enjoyed driving, loved animals and dearly loved his family. Mr. Bruce was preceded in death by sister Nellie Furguson and brothers Virlyn Bruce, Jimmy Bruce and Tim Bruce.
Surviving are wife Brenda Bruce of Covington: daughters and sons-in-law Jennifer and Justin Bailey of Florence, S.C., Pam and Tim Gaunett of Oxford; sons and daughters in-law Robert and Theresa Welch, Junior and Margie Welch, all of Covington; grandchildren Craig, Stephen, Brandon, Jade, Jonathan, Deanna, Daniel, Tyler; sisters and brother-in-law June and Roy Thompson, Joann Jenkins all of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law Steve and Elaine Bruce of Wibaux, Mont., George (Cooter) and Mary Ella Bruce of Covington; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in the Access Road chapel of Caldwell & Cowan with the Rev. Terry Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Almon Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends today, Feb. 6, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road.
