Mr. Bobby M. Shepherd, 76, of Covington, died July 30 at Kennestone Hospital, Marietta. The son of the late Jim Paul and Estelle Haralson Shepherd, he was born in Morgan County. Mr. Shepherd had been a resident of Covington for 45 years. A former member of Covington First United Methodist Church, he was a current member of Pennington United Methodist Church, Madison. Mr. Shepherd was a member of the Covington Rotary Club and BPOE Lodge No. 1806. He was a NASCAR fan. Employed for many years at Covington Ford Mercury, he became co-owner before retiring in 1998. He continued to work as a consultant.

Surviving are wife Mattie M. Shepherd of Covington; daughters and sons-in-law Vickie S. and W. Grady Bryans of Newborn, Kathy S. and Wesley Johnson of Covington; son Alan Shepherd of Newborn; grandchildren Brian S. Bryans, Ashley Saye Hammonds, Chrissy J. Hall, Merideth Bryans, Melody Bryans, Michael Johnson; great-grandchildren EmmaGrace Bryans, Beau Shepherd Bryans, Tucker Wallace Bryans; one niece; one nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Pennington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry Wolfe and the Rev. Linda Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Pennington United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Aug. 1, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to the Newton County Humane Society, attention Betty Bellairs, P.O. Box 2536, Covington, 30015.
