Mr. Arthur Vason Sr. "Pap" died Jan. 14 at Newton Medical Center. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Shedrick (Emma Banks) Vason, he was born in 1928 in Jasper County, the youngest of six children. He was preceded in death by brothers Charlie L. Vason and Albert Vason; sisters Irene Vason, Delthia Deer and Ellen Heard; daughter Kathy Maude Woods; and granddaughter Letice Vason. Mr. Vason was raised and educated in Newton County and joined Pleasant View Baptist Church at an early age and becoming an active and devoted and member. His commitment and love for his church were well recognized as he served on the Deacon Board and attended church faithfully until his health declined. He was a member of Enterprise Lodge No. 551. Mr. Vason worked at Wilshire Furniture Company, Southern Cross Mathews Company and at MILMAC Factory where he retired. Dedicated and hard working, Mr. Vason was a good provider for his family. He enjoyed gardening, farming and working in the yard, but mostly he enjoyed reading the Bible and sharing his knowledge with others. He will be remembered as a person who was caring and loved talking with family and friends.

Surviving are wife of 56 years Mrs. Dora Lucile Vason; sons Mr. Arthur Vason Jr., Mr. Horace Vason, Mr. Harold Vason; 10 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; aunt Mrs. Lois Banks; sisters-in-law Ms. Margie Sims, Ms. Gladys Sims; brothers-in-law Mr. Earlie Sims, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford (Mary) Sims; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Rev. Camile Holmes; the Rev. R.L. Curtis and Minister Shane Tritton officiating. Interment followed in Flat Shoals Cemetery.
