NewRock All-Area 2015 baseball team

One thing I've found to be true in creating these All-Area teams is that the Newton/Rockdale area has a lot of impressive ball players. There is a lot of talent at this level and plenty that have the talent to play at the next level. With that said below you'll find the first and second All-Area teams for the 2014-2015 school year. Because there's so much talent some players were left out, but that doesn't take away from each player's individual ability. There are some positions loaded with talent whereas others there are only ...

Q&A: Champ Young on Eastside soccer

Eastside boys soccer is entering the state playoffs as the No. 4 seed from Region 4-AAAA. The Eagles have an overall record of 9-6 and a region record of 7-4. The distance between being No. 1 in that region and being No. 4 is slim, but the Eagles edged out four other teams with the same region record in a tough region to advance to the playoffs. We spoke with Eastside head coach about the team’s mindset entering the playoffs and the growth of the team from the beginning of the season until now.

Eagles poised to be dangerous seed in the playoffs

Eastside completed a sweep of Spalding in a doubleheader at home on Thursday to give the Eagles a shot at obtaining a No. 3 seed in the state playoffs at minimum. With the weirdly constructed way Eastside’s region is set up, despite going 15-3 in Region 4-AAAA, the Eagles will likely be the No. 4 seed forcing them to travel to play Wayne County in the first round of the state playoffs.

Swagger and confidence

Swagger and confidence

Any championship team in any sport will tell you that to win a championship everybody has to buy in and everybody has to understand their role. Some players on championship teams don’t like each other (Hi Shaq and Kobe), but they still work together for the common goal – a championship. This year’s Eastside baseball team hasn’t won a championship yet, but the Eagles are playing with the swagger and confidence of a championship team.
