Eagles look to pressure McDonald

Eastside quarterback Austin Holloway dropped back and delivered a pass to avoid taking what would’ve been a sack in practice on Wednesday. The Eagles’ defense quickly took down the receiver, something they’ve struggled with as of late, and head coach Rick Hurst praised his defense, but he also coached up players to what they needed to do right.

3 and out

Midway through the season, Eastside football sits at a comfortable 2-2. One fumble in overtime might have propelled them to 3-1, but that’s something we’ll never know. What we do know is, the Eagles have five games left, all against region opponents with a combined record of 12-7.

Lady Eagles toppled by Walnut Grove

Thursday’s matchup against Walnut Grove (19-2, 10-0 Region 4-AAAA) had huge implications for Eastside (15-4-1, 7-3 Region 4-AAAA). A win would have put them in sole possession of third place in the region behind Walnut Grove and Eagle’s Landing. Walnut Grove, however, is one of the best teams in the state and it showed on Thursday in its 8-0 victory over Eastside.

Eagles fall to Cardinals

Eastside (2-2, Region 4-AAAA) came into the game against Jonesboro (1-3, Region 4-AAAA) after suffering a humiliating loss to No. 3 ranked Griffin. However, that wasn’t all that was ailing the Eagles. Sophomore starting running back Eric Stokes and backup Andrew Henderson were both sidelined with injuries, however Eastside played well and had a chance to win before losing in overtime, 27-21.

Pink out turns to blowout

Other than a stellar fifth inning that saw Newton score all five of its runs, Eastside — rocking the pink unis on Monday — owned the game and the rivalry this season making them 2-0 to finish the series against its rival, as the Lady Eagles ran away with a 13-5 victory.

Eastside to face No. 3 ranked Griffin

This isn’t David vs. Goliath. Eastside (2-0 Region 4-AAAA) is too good of a team to be David, but Griffin (2-0 Region 4-AAAA), ranked No. 3 in the state by maxpreps.com, is definitely goliath-level football. A better comparison would probably be Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed — the first time — with Eastside being Rocky and Griffin, the undisputed champion, being Apollo.

Eagles fly by Tigers

Both Alcovy and Eastside have starting lineups majorly made up of either sophomores and/or freshmen. The question coming into the game was “which team‘s inexperience would show more?” The answer to that question is Alcovy, as their inexperience showed throughout the game where they fell 36-6 to the Eagles.
