Work continues at Henderson’s intersection

/

Utility relocation activity is currently underway in the realignment of Henderson Mill Road at its intersection of Highway 36, according to Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) District Communications Officer Kyle Collins.

“The existing intersection creates a ‘five-point’ environment, which is not desirable for optimal safety and operational efficiency,” Collins said. “This project will regulate currently uncontrolled access points from the adjacent properties to State Route 36, Steele Road and Flat Shoals Road and increase sight distance for drivers approaching all sides of the intersection.

“This is a busy intersection that we feel will function better with the realignment and traffic signals additions. When complete, the likelihood of accidents will be greatly reduced as this county continues growth.”

The project will realign Henderson Mill Road approximately 0.19 miles south of its existing intersection. Traffic signals will then be constructed at the existing intersection of State Route 36 and Flat Shoals Road/Steel Road and at the realigned Henderson Mill Road intersection.

“The roadway will consist of two – 12-foot travel lanes in each direction with 12-food left and right turn lanes onto Flat Shoals/Steel Road and Henderson Mill Road,” he said. “The shoulders will consist of 10-foot urban and rural shoulders.”

The current completion date for the project is set for Aug. 31 and it is a $1.9 million job. Knight and Associates Inc. is the contractor for the project.

Another huge, unnecessary, expensive mess, thank you Chmn Ellis.
Simple solution was to end Steele Road at Henderson Mill, the outlet then would have been at the end of the subdivision just east of Steele Rd. a smidgen of paving required...that's it!
Then you would have had a normal four way intersection at Henderson's for a traffic light.
All this stuff they are doing, geez its like they are building an interstate highway 1/4 of a mile long. I know what Trump would say, "Stop this mess, plant grass and go with the plan mentioned above."
