Returning to prominence

Alcovy's Wesley welcomes task as new softball coach

/

Once upon a time, the Alcovy softball team was known as a pretty good program. The Lady Tigers bolstered a winning record from 2012-2015 including an astonishing 35-1 region mark during those four seasons. However, the program took a turn for the worst, and fell victim to a region realignment that ultimately proved to be an Achilles heel for the team, as they went 1-18 overall including a 1-7 Region 3-AAAAAA record in 2016.

However, as the 2017 season approaches, the program will be headed by new head coach, Kelly Wesley, who looks to return the team back to prominence and seek retribution in their region this upcoming season.

In a statement to the Covington News, Coach Wesley provided an outlook on the team as well as their goals for the new season full of many new players:

“Alcovy’s Softball team is an established a group of players who are being introduced to unification, collaboration, wholeness, and harmony,” Wesley said. Our team’s goals this season are unpretentious because the standards of expectations are initiated by positivity. Our players will be presented with opportunities rather challenges that will permit them to step outside their comfort zone and achieve their greatest potential. We are here to compete as a team! Another team goal is to exhibit and maintain a fun, positive, enthusiastic atmosphere. The team’s goals and skill levels will be demonstrated through actions and attitude.”

Coach Wesley is excited about the opportunity for change as well as establishing a new identity for the team and is already working hard to make a positive impact.
