The Alcovy girls tennis team punched its ticket to the Class AAAAAAA state tournament with a win over Grovetown.

The Alcovy girls tennis team throttled Grovetown 4-1 Tuesday, allowing the Lady Tigers to advance to Wednesday’s region semifinals against Greenbrier, but more importantly giving them a state tournament berth for the first time in at least three years.

In so doing, Alcovy avenged two earlier regular season losses against Grovetown. Here are the results from the state tournament-clinching match against Grovetown:

No. 2 Singles 2 - Madison Young won 6-2, 6-1

No. 3 Singles 3 - Julia Towns won 6-3, 6-3

No. 1 Doubles 1 - Anna Claire Newsham and Haley Carter won 6-2, 6-1

No. 2 Doubles 2 - Cynthia Twiford and Emma Waddell won 6-2, 6-1.

Shalynne Grasty, Ali Eaton, Cristal Avila and Grace Radovich also contributed substantially for the Lady Tigers.
