Atlanta, Macon break record low temperatures

ATLANTA (AP) — Unusually cool air helped Atlanta and Macon break records for low temperatures.

National Weather Service forecasters say the low of 60 degrees in Atlanta around 5 a.m. Wednesday broke the previous record of 61 degrees for the date. The previous record low for July 30 in Atlanta was set in 1936.

Macon hit a low of 61 degrees around 5 a.m. Wednesday, breaking a previous record low of 62 degrees for July 30. Macon's previous record low for the date was set in 1920.

Temperatures fell even lower in the north Georgia mountains. A U.S. Forest Service weather station recorded a low of 48 degrees shortly after 5 a.m. in Union County.
