COVINGTON, Ga. - Shamica Tucker has been selected as the director of the Housing Authority of the City of Covington. Tucker previously served as the interim director after the resignation of Greg Williams earlier this year.

Tucker was named one of three finalists for the position last month and Landis Stephens, Housing Authority of the City of Covington Commission chairman, confirmed the decision with The Covington News Thursday.

According to her resume, Tucker has worked with the Covington housing authority since 2013 as the Property Manager and Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator.

Tucker, who lives in Porterdale, has previously worked for the Center for Community Preservation and Planning, Georgia Power and STW Financial. She also founded a non-profit organization named Energema.

“I am excited to recommend Shamika to lead the Covington Housing Authority,” Covington Mayor Ronnie Johnston wrote in a recommendation letter in March. “I know she will be a beneficial addition and will continue serving Covington at a high level.”

“As we work to make our community all that it can be, we cannot leave people behind,” Porterdale Mayor Arline Chapman wrote in a recommendation letter in March. “I believe that Shamica shares our commitment to provide housing and education so that all have the ability to take pride in their way of life and that of their children.”
