Discharged firearm call turns into warrant, drug arrest

COVINGTON, Ga. – The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) arrested a Covington woman Wednesday after a report of a discharged firearm turned up a warrant, drugs and drug paraphernalia.

According to the NCSO incident report, Deputy Robert Gordon responded to the house on Woodland Drive on a report of somebody firing a weapon. On arrival, he found out that the male who fired the weapon had already left the scene. During the investigation, Gordon determined that a female at the scene, Diamond Loyd, 23, had been involved in a domestic dispute with the male.

Loyd reportedly had an outstanding warrant for probation violation. According to the report, a bag of methamphetamine was located in her vehicle and a scale and 7.4 grams of methamphetamine were located in her purse.

Loyd was transported to the Newton County Jail charged with probation violation, sale of a schedule I or II controlled substance, possession and use of drug-related objects and possession of tools for commission of a crime.
